The MIIPAF Decree of the 9 December 2016 introduces the obligation regarding the labeling of milk and it’s derived.

For all the kinds of milk and the dairy products like: heavy cream (concentrated or not), buttermilk, yogurt, kefir, milk whey, butter, spreadable creams, cheese, dairy products, curd, long life milk; the following information must be written on the label:

• “Paese di mungitura”: nome del paese nel quale il latte è stato munto
• “Paese di condizionamento o trasformazione”: nome del paese nel quale il latte è stato munto o trasformato.

When the country where the milking, conditioning or transformation took place is the same it is possible to use the indication: “origine del latte”: nome del paese.
In  the case that the operation took place in more country of the European union  it is possible to use the indications:

• “Latte di paesi UE” per l’operazione di mungitura.
• “Latte condizionato o trasformato in Paesi UE” per le operazioni di condizionamento o trasformazione.

Instead, if the operation took place in more country outside the European Union the indications are:

• “Latte di Paesi non UE” per l’operazione di mungitura.
• “Latte condizionato o trasformato in Paesi non UE” per le operazioni di condizionamento o trasformazione.

These regulations do not apply to PDO and PGI products and fresh milk for which the regulations prior to the decree of 9 December 2016 remain in force.

The MIIPAF Decree of 9 December 2016 is in force from 19 April 2017 untill the 31 March 2019.
