Products such as 'Grana Padano' or 'Aceto balsamico di Modena' are among the PDO and PGI products. The names of these products are registered and protected and may therefore be used in advertising or in the list of ingredients only under certain conditions.*

According to the European Commission, it is legitimate to include a PDO or PGI name in the list of ingredients of a food product.

However, for any use outside the list of ingredients, consent must be obtained from the consortium.**
